Restoration implies there was a beginning and that is where we must start
What was the basis of the original covenant; how did it all begin?
The story began in ~2000BC when God chose Abraham.
It was entirely God's idea.
God’s redemption plan that would offer salvation to a wicked world
was revealed to Abraham, the Jewish Patriarch;
and be unfolded over the next 2 millennia till Jesus came to earth.
The Good Shepherd, who would lay down his life for sheep who are lost.
Then there would be a further 2,000 years during which Almighty God
would graciously offer salvation to the Gentiles.
God would then open the eyes of the Jews, who would repent and believe.
Thus all Israel would be saved. Ro 1125-27
God’s covenant would be finally and completely fulfilled.
And his righteous and eternal kingdom established.
This prompts 3 questions, which we shall attempt to answer in the next section.
1. What was Almighty God’s covenant to Abraham?
2. How was it revealed?
3. And Why?
God's Eternal Covenant to Abraham
[Contents]
Abraham was the first of a succession of prophets and leaders sent to reveal
God’s plan of salvation over the next 2,000 years; and they still do.
It is not for us to question why God chose Abraham and the Jewish people.
We must humbly learn from the wise fact that he did.
It is a choice that he has never abandoned, and never will. Indeed he cannot!
Almighty God has chosen to bind himself to his covenant. He must be faithful.
This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day,
who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night,
who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar - the Lord Almighty is his name:
"Only if these decrees vanish from my sight," declares the Lord,
"will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me."
This is what the Lord says: "Only if the heavens above can be measured
and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the
descendants of Israel because of all they have done," declares the Lord. Jer 3135-37
God's choice of Abraham was entirely God's idea.
Unlike Mohammed (Islam), Joseph Smith (Mormons), Mary Baker Eddy (C.Sc),
who each claimed to be God's prophets, but lied.
Nine separate occasions are recorded in Genesis 12-22
when God meets with Abraham to answer each of these three questions.
1. Gen 121-3
Leave your country (Haran) ... and go to the land I will show you.)
Abraham obeyed. He left Ur, and then Haran after his father Terah died.
God assured him he was doing the right thing. Heb 118-10 (Like he did Abel etc)
I will make you into a great nation ...
Have the Jews ever been a great nation? Not like Egypt, Babylon, or Rome.
Perhaps under king David there was a brief time of limited greatness.
Jews have had a roller-coaster ride for last 4,000 years.
They have been disobedient and punished, enslaved in Egypt for 400 years,
40 years in the Sinai desert, exiled by Assyria, exiled to Babylon for 70 years.
and exiled by Rome when they rejected the Messiah.
Yet they remained a nation without real-estate and have now returned.
One day the faithful God has promised they will be great -
much to the chagrin of today’s superpowers
and to the surprise of most of the church!
Israel will become a righteous nation, and it is this that will make her great.
Ezek 1117 Hos 34,5 Zech 81-8 Zech 106-9 Joel 31
God's promised plan for the Jews is not yet complete; but it will be.
Redemption is complete, 'finished'. Jn 1930 Salvation is yet to come. Heb 928
and I will bless you.
How? Almighty God gave to the Jews the Covenants, promises, scriptures,
the Patriarchs, the Law, and the prophets. Most of all he gave them
the promised Christ. Ro 94,5
I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse.
Who have blessed? Very few. But by his grace he has blessed even me!
Who have cursed? Many. God will destroy the enemies of Israel.
Is 13-23 Jer 46-51 Ezek 25-28, Obadiah Nahum Zeph 2
Nations will be punished, not only for their wickedness, but especially for
for what they did to Israel. Jer 5149 Ezek 253, 12, 15 262 2824 Obed 112
All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
Not only Jews are promisedblessing but all believers in Jesus from all nations.
We have been hugely blessed by our Redeemer.
The Veil was rent, and we are invited to enter. Heb 1019-23 Includes Gentiles.
All people will be blessed when he returns - especially the Jews!
2. Gen 127
To your offspring I will give this land?
This and the the next four direct revelations to Abraham by Almighty God concern land.
This gift of 'real-estate' is vigerously contested.
Whose is the land? God created it. Ps 241,2
We are never owners, at best we are temporary tenants.
3. Gen 1315
All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring for ever.
I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth.
What offspring? The offspring of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - the Jews.
These promises of land, have became a major problem today,
especially to those who use the Scriptures selectively, or maybe not at all!
Almighty God's gift of the land to the Jews is 'for ever'. (see also 5b and 6)
How much land? All the land of Canaan that Abraham saw.
All the land that Almighty God had led him to. Like the Magi. Math 21-12
4. Gen 1419
Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine.
He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying,
"Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth."
Melchizedek brought a word of blessing to Abraham direct from heaven.
By inference the measure of God’s blessing is unlimited, like his creation.
5a. Gen 155,13-15
Look up at the heavens and count the stars –if indeed you can count them.
Then he said to him, "so shall your offspring be."
God confirms the vast number of his descendants.
With the naked eye we can see 50% of ~10,000 stars (>magnitude 6)
(astronomical telescopes especially, Hubble, enable many more to be seen.)
Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
All such promises are revealed by faith - see Heb 1123
He also said to him, "I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans
to give you this land to take possession of it.
Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own,
and they will be enslaved and ill-treated 400 years ... and afterwards
they will come out with great possessions. ... Your descendants will come back here."
God confirms his land gift promise.
Egypt would be punished for enslaving the Jews.
Amram and Jochebed knew this promise when their 3rd child, Moses, was born. Exd 22 76,7
5b. Gen 1518
On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abraham and said,
"To your descendants I give this land,
from the river of Egypt (Nile) to the great river, the Euphrates ..."
God defines the borders of Israel - much further than the UN 1948 borders!
Almighty God is not impressed by the world-backed claims by the Palestinians.
God's promise has only been partly fulfilled. But one day it will be.
(See website '' 'Whose Land?' Use back arrow to return here)
6a. Gen 171-8
I am God Almighty, walk before me and be blameless. I confirm my covenant
between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.
This is my covenant with you; You will be the father of many nations ...
I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and
your descendants after you ... to be your God.
The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien,
I will give you as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you;
and I will be their God. ...
God here confirms his previous promises concerning both descendants and land.
He also twice emphasises that his covenant is everlasting. And it is unconditional.
The wicked, who discard the Word of Almighty God, vigorously contest his gift.
But mere man cannot thwart the plan of God. See 2nd and 3rd promises above.
We will see what God will do later.
UK reneaged on the Balfour Declaration of 1917 and the League of Nations 1922
and UK and UN divided Palestine Jewish homeland + Arabs in 1947/8
See Joel 32 for what will happen later 'because they divided my land'.
6b. Gen 1711, 19-21
You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be a sign of the covenant ...
Your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac.
I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant
for his descendants after him.
My covenant I will establish with Isaac,
(Like the Rainbow is a sign that world-wide flood was a one-off judgement.)
whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.
Circumcision is not a covenant, but is a sign of God's covenant.
(Like the Rainbow is a sign that world-wide flood was a one-off judgement.)
Not all circumcised Jews/Gentiles are saved. Not proof of salvation. Ro 96-8
Sometimes the sign is made more important than what is signifies. Gal 612-15
God repeats that the covenant is everlasting.
Abraham and Sarah were still childless. Now God reveals his timing.
7. Gen 1810, 14
I will surely return to you about this time next year,
and Sarah your wife will have a son.
God repeats the timing of his promise.
8. Gen 2112,13
Do not be distressed about the boy (Ishmael) and your maidservant. Listen to
whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be
reckoned. I will make the son of the maidservant into a nation also, because he
is your offspring.
Ishmael was not a child of promise. See also Gen 222 255,6
2,600 years later one of his descendants became the father of Islam.
Note the consistent fulfilment of the prophecy:
He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone
and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility
toward all his brothers. Gen 1612 2518 e.g. current 'mess' in Syria and Yemen.
(also Islam always advances by force of arms)
9. Gen 22
This is the climax of Almighty God's revelations to his servant Abraham.
Heb 1111 c.f. Heb 1113 What did Abraham have to wait for? Son, land, salvation.
Gen 222 'Take your son, your only son ... and sacrifice him ...'
God asked no more than he did for himself with his son Jesus.
Gen 227,8 'Where is the lamb?' ... God himself will provide the lamb'.
And he did provide. Jn 129 Math 317
'The full, perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.'
Gen 2214 Abraham called the place 'The Lord will provide'. (not has provided)
Abraham knew God's faithfulness. 2,000 years later Jesus 'provided'.
He clearly saw the day of Jesus Christ, and rejoiced! Jn 856
God's Absolute Faithfulness [Contents]
Most of the rest of the OT is about how Almighty God fulfilled his covenant
with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their descendants.
God confirms the covenant of descendants and land with Isaac. Gen 262-5
God confirms the covenant of descendants and land with Jacob. Gen 2813-15 3512
God confirms the covenant of descendants and land with Joseph. Gen 484
God confirms the Abramic covenant of land with Moses. Exd 224 64 Deut 18 610
God confirms the Abramic covenant of land with Joshua. Josh 12,3 1123
God confirms Abramic covenant for descendants and Kingdom with David. 2Sam 711b-16,24,29
The new covenant does not cancel the eternal covenant with Abraham.
But it does supersede the conditional covenant with Moses (the Law)
Jer 31 Ezek 37 Jn 117 Math 517
Sin and exile punishment does not cancel eternal covenant with Abraham,
either before or after Christ's coming as Saviour.
Nothing can cancel it because it is eternal.
It is also unconditional - no ifs or unless.
God knew all that would happen over next 4,000 years from Abraham to today.
The history of the Jews has been very mixed; good and bad.
Consider the swings to and away from God in book of Judges.
Their history includes exiles - by Assyria in 722 BC, to Babylon in 586 BC
and when under Rome in AD 70 and 135.
The northern tribes of Israel had 20 kings - all evil.
Judah also had 20 kings - only 3 righteous, 12 evil and 5 started well.
But throughout all this history, and since, God has remained totally faithful.
He chose Israel and he will never ever divorce her.
Israel remains God's special treasure.
For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations. Deut 67-9
And the Lord has declared today that you are a people for his treasured possession, as he has promised you, and that you are to keep all his commandments, and that he will set you in praise and in fame and in honour high above all nations that he has made, and that you shall be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised. Deut 2618,19
If Israel turns away from God and he hides his face from them for a season, it is only so that they realise their foolishness and return to him. 2Ch 309
Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord of hosts is his name: "If this fixed order departs from before me, declares the Lord, then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before me forever." Thus says the Lord: "If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, declares the Lord." Jer 3135-37
"As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable." Ro 1129
Jesus was born a Jew in Bethlehem, the city of David!
And he died 'King of the Jews' in Jerusalem as our Redeemer.
Calvary is absolutely fantastic; but it is not the end of the story. Heb 928
Today Almighty God is despised; so is Israel.
God will not leave his creation in this sorry state.
One day both will be honoured.
The name of God, the God of Israel is at stake. Jer 339 Ezek 3622
God’s great master plan reaches its climax when Jesus Christ returns.
The Jewish nation of Israel is restored (see list of promises at the end)
Jesus returns to Jerusalem to be King of his righteous Kingdom of God.
And this is where Replacement Theology loses the plot.
God's Promise to Restore Israel -
Land, Descendants and Salvation
[Contents]
Many of these familiar verses are applicable to us Gentiles, but all principally apply to nation of Israel. May the Lord Almighty enlarge our vision of this his plan and purpose for Israel, promised throughout the Old and New Testaments. Notice that in a large number of these restoration promises, Almighty God includes the land as well as the salvation of Israel. Most of the world today hotly disputes God's gift of land to Israel; they prefer to side with Islam and the Palestinian lies. Sadly this includes the deception of a significant number in the church. Sadly, they may well have to pay a high price for such a foolish error.
Is 111-5
There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his
roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of
wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of
knowledge and the fear of the Lord. And his delight shall be in the fear of the
Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, decide disputes by what his ears
hear, but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for
the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and
with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt
of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins.
Is 1110-12
In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples--of him
shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious. In that day the
Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains
of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam,
from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea. He will raise a
signal for the nations and will assemble the banished of Israel, and gather the
dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
Is 141
For the Lord will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel, and will set them in their own land, and sojourners will join them and will attach themselves to the house of Jacob.
Is 276
In days to come Jacob shall take root, Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots and fill the whole world with fruit.
Is 2712-13
In that day from the river Euphrates to the Brook of Egypt the Lord will thresh out
the grain, and you will be gleaned one by one, O people of Israel. And in that day
a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and
those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord
on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
Is 321-5
Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule in justice. Each will
be like a hiding place from the wind, a shelter from the storm, like streams of
water in a dry place, like the shade of a great rock in a weary land. Then the eyes
of those who see will not be closed, and the ears of those who hear will give
attention. The heart of the hasty will understand and know, and the tongue of the
stammerers will hasten to speak distinctly. The fool will no more be called noble,
nor the scoundrel said to be honourable.
Is 3214-18
For the palace is forsaken, the populous city deserted; the hill and the
watchtower will become dens forever, a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks;
until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a
fruitful field, and the fruitful field is deemed a forest. Then justice will dwell in
the wilderness, and righteousness abide in the fruitful field. And the effect of
righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust
forever. My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and
in quiet resting places.
Is 3317, 20-24
Your eyes will behold the king in his beauty; they will see a land that stretches
afar. ... Behold Zion, the city of our appointed feasts! Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an
untroubled habitation, an immovable tent, whose stakes will never be plucked up,
nor will any of its cords be broken. But there the Lord in majesty will be for us
a place of broad rivers and streams, where no galley with oars can go, nor
majestic ship can pass. For the Lord is our judge; the Lord is our lawgiver; the
Lord is our king; he will save us. Your cords hang loose; they cannot hold the mast
firm in its place or keep the sail spread out. Then prey and spoil in abundance
will be divided; even the lame will take the prey. And no inhabitant will say, "I
am sick"; the people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity.
Is 401-5
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and
cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has
received from the Lord's hand double for all her sins. A voice cries: "In the
wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for
our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made
low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. And the
glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the
mouth of the Lord has spoken."
Is 418-10, 13-14, 17-20
But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of
Abraham, my friend; you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called
from its farthest corners, saying to you, "You are my servant, I have chosen you
and not cast you off"; fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your
God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous
right hand. ...
For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to
you, "Fear not, I am the one who helps you." Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men
of Israel! I am the one who helps you, declares the Lord; your Redeemer is the
Holy One of Israel. ...
When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is
parched with thirst, I the Lord will answer them; I the God of Israel will not
forsake them. I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of
the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs
of water. I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, the myrtle, and the
olive. I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane and the pine together, that
they may see and know, may consider and understand together, that the hand
of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created.
Is 421-7
Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have
put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry
aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not
break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth
justice. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in
the earth; and the coastlands wait for his law. Thus says God, the Lord, who
created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what
comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk
in it: "I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the
hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the
nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the
dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.
Is 431-7
But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you,
O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are
mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the
rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not
be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba
in exchange for you. Because you are precious in my eyes, and honoured, and I
love you, I give men in return for you, peoples in exchange for your life. Fear not,
for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I
will gather you. I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold;
bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone
who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."
Is 441-5
"But now hear, O Jacob my servant, Israel whom I have chosen! Thus says the
Lord who made you, who formed you from the womb and will help you: Fear
not, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen. For I will pour water on
the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your
offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. They shall spring up among the
grass like willows by flowing streams. This one will say, 'I am the Lord's,' another
will call on the name of Jacob, and another will write on his hand, 'The Lord's,'
and name himself by the name of Israel."
Is 4421-22, 24-28
Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed
you; you are my servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me. I have blotted
out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist; return to me, for I
have redeemed you. ...
Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: "I am the
Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out
the earth by myself, who frustrates the signs of liars and makes fools of diviners,
who turns wise men back and makes their knowledge foolish, who confirms the
word of his servant and fulfills the counsel of his messengers, who says of
Jerusalem, 'She shall be inhabited,' and of the cities of Judah, 'They shall be
built, and I will raise up their ruins'; who says to the deep, 'Be dry; I will dry up
your rivers'; who says of Cyrus, 'He is my shepherd, and he shall fulfill all my
purpose'; saying of Jerusalem, 'She shall be built,' and of the temple, 'Your
foundation shall be laid. '"
Is 4511-13
Thus says the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and the one who formed him: "Ask me
of things to come; will you command me concerning my children and the work
of my hands? I made the earth and created man on it; it was my hands that
stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host. I have stirred him up
in righteousness, and I will make all his ways level; he shall build my city and set
my exiles free, not for price or reward," says the Lord of hosts.
Is 493,5-7
And he said to me, "You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified." ...
And now the Lord says, he who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to
bring Jacob back to him; and that Israel might be gathered to him-- for I am
honored in the eyes of the Lord, and my God has become my strength-- he says:
"It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of
Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the
nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth." Thus says the
Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One, to one deeply despised, abhorred
by the nation, the servant of rulers: "Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they
shall prostrate themselves; because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of
Israel, who has chosen you."
Is 521-10
Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O
Jerusalem, the holy city; for there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised
and the unclean. Shake yourself from the dust and arise; be seated, O Jerusalem;
loose the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion. For thus says the
Lord: "You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money." For
thus says the Lord God: "My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn
there, and the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing. Now therefore what have I
here," declares the Lord, "seeing that my people are taken away for nothing?
Their rulers wail," declares the Lord, "and continually all the day my name is
despised. Therefore my people shall know my name. Therefore in that day they
shall know that it is I who speak; here I am." How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good
news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns."
The voice of your watchmen--they lift up their voice; together they sing for joy;
for eye to eye they see the return of the Lord to Zion. Break forth together into
singing, you waste places of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people;
>he has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord has bared his holy arm before the eyes of
all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
Is 544-17
"Fear not, for you will not be ashamed; be not confounded, for you will not be
disgraced; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the reproach of your
widowhood you will remember no more. For your Maker is your husband, the
Lord of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God
of the whole earth he is called. For the Lord has called you like a wife deserted
and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is cast off, says your God. For
a brief moment I deserted you, but with great compassion I will gather you. In
overflowing anger for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love
I will have compassion on you," says the Lord, your Redeemer. "This is like the
days of Noah to me: as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over
the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, and will not rebuke
you. For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast
love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,"
says the Lord, who has compassion on you. "O afflicted one, storm- tossed and
not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in antimony, and lay your
foundations with sapphires. I will make your pinnacles of agate, your gates of
carbuncles, and all your wall of precious stones. All your children shall be taught
by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children. In righteousness you
shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and
from terror, for it shall not come near you. If anyone stirs up strife, it is not from
me; whoever stirs up strife with you shall fall because of you. Behold, I have
created the smith who blows the fire of coals and produces a weapon for its
purpose. I have also created the ravager to destroy; no weapon that is fashioned
against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against
you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their
vindication from me, declares the Lord."
Is 566-8
"And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord, to minister to him, to love
the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath
and does not profane it, and holds fast my covenant-- these I will bring to my
holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt
offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be
called a house of prayer for all peoples." The Lord God, who gathers the outcasts
of Israel, declares, "I will gather yet others to him besides those already
gathered."
Is 5713b
But he who takes refuge in me shall possess the land and shall inherit my holy mountain.
Is 601-3, 10, 15-22
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. ...
Foreigners shall build up your walls, and their kings shall minister to you; for in my wrath I struck you, but in my favour I have had mercy on you. ...
Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, with no one passing through, I will make you majestic forever, a joy from age to age. You shall suck the milk of nations; you shall nurse at the breast of kings; and you shall know that I, the Lord, am your Saviour and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. Instead of bronze I will bring gold, and instead of iron I will bring silver; instead of wood, bronze, instead of stones, iron. I will make your overseers peace and your taskmasters righteousness. Violence shall no more be heard in your land, devastation or destruction within your borders; you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise. The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun shall no more go down, nor your moon withdraw itself; for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended. Your people shall all be righteous; they shall possess the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I might be glorified. The least one shall become a clan, and the smallest one a mighty nation; I am the Lord; in its time I will hasten it.
Is 611-4
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified. They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.
Is 621-5, 11,12
For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not be quiet,
until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning
torch. The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and
you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. You shall
be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of
your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be
termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land
Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a
young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the
bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. ...
Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to the daughter of
Zion, "Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his
recompense before him." And they shall be called The Holy People, The
Redeemed of the Lord; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken.
Is 658-10
Thus says the Lord: "As the new wine is found in the cluster, and they say, 'Do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it,' so I will do for my servants 'sake, and not destroy them all. I will bring forth offspring from Jacob, and from Judah possessors of my mountains; my chosen shall possess it, and my servants shall dwell there. Sharon shall become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down, for my people who have sought me.
Jer 317,18
At that time Jerusalem shall be called the throne of the Lord, and all nations shall gather to it, to the presence of the Lord in Jerusalem, and they shall no more stubbornly follow their own evil heart. In those days the house of Judah shall join the house of Israel, and together they shall come from the land of the north to the land that I gave your fathers for a heritage.
Jer 1614,15 and Jer 237,8
Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it shall no longer be said, 'As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt,' but 'As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.' For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their fathers.
Jer 235,6
"The days are coming," declares the Lord, "when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteousness."
Jer 245-7
Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Like these good figs, so I will regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I have sent away from this place to the land of the Chaldeans. I will set my eyes on them for good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up, and not tear them down; I will plant them, and not pluck them up. I will give them a heart to know that I am the Lord, and they shall be my people and I will be their God, for they shall return to me with their whole heart.
Jer 303, 8-11
For behold, days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people, Israel and Judah, says the Lord, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall take possession of it. ...
And it shall come to pass in that day, declares the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and I will burst your bonds, and foreigners shall no more make a servant of him. But they shall serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them. Then fear not, O Jacob my servant, declares the Lord, nor be dismayed, O Israel; for behold, I will save you from far away, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease, and none shall make him afraid. For I am with you to save you, declares the Lord.
Jer 3012, 17,18, 22
For thus says the Lord: Your hurt is incurable, and your wound is grievous. ...
For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord,
because they have called you an outcast: 'It is Zion, for whom no one cares!' Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob ...
And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
Jer 317-9
For thus says the Lord: "Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for
the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, 'O Lord, save your
people, the remnant of Israel.' Behold, I will bring them from the north country
and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and
the lame, the pregnant woman and she who is in labour, together; a great
company, they shall return here. With weeping they shall come, and with pleas
for mercy I will lead them back, I will make them walk by brooks of water, in a
straight path in which they shall not stumble, for I am a father to Israel, and
Ephraim is my firstborn.
Jer 3110-12
"Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, and declare it in the coastlands far away;
say, 'He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd
keeps his flock.' For the Lord has ransomed Jacob and has redeemed him from
hands too strong for him. They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion,
and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the Lord, over the grain, the wine,
and the oil, and over the young of the flock and the herd; their life shall be like
a watered garden, and they shall languish no more.
Jer 3116-20
Thus says the Lord: "Keep your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears,
... There is hope for your future, declares the Lord, and your children shall come back to their own country. I have heard Ephraim grieving, 'You have disciplined me, and I was disciplined, like an untrained calf; bring me back that I may be restored, for you are the Lord my God.' ...
Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him," declares the Lord.
Jer 3123-28
Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:"Once more they shall use these
words in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I restore their fortunes: "'The
Lord bless you, O habitation of righteousness, O holy hill!' And Judah and all its
cities shall dwell there together, and the farmers and those who wander with their
flocks. For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will
replenish." ... "Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will sow
the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of
beast. And it shall come to pass that as I have watched over them to pluck up and
break down, to overthrow, destroy, and bring harm, so I will watch over them to
build and to plant," declares the Lord.
Jer 3131-34
"Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant
that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring
them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their
husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the
house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them,
and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my
people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbour and each his brother,
saying, 'Know the Lord, ' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the
greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember
their sin no more."
Jer 3135-37 (and Jer 3319-22 Jer 3325,26)
Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day and the
fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so
that its waves roar-- the Lord of hosts is his name: "If this fixed order departs
from before me, declares the Lord, then shall the offspring of Israel cease from
being a nation before me forever." Thus says the Lord: "If the heavens above can
be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will
cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, declares the Lord."
Jer 3236-44
Now therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, 'It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine, and by pestilence': Behold, I will gather them from all the countries to which I drove them in my anger and my wrath and in great indignation. I will bring them back to this place, and I will make them dwell in safety. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them. I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me. I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul. For thus says the Lord: Just as I have brought all this great disaster upon this people, so I will bring upon them all the good that I promise them. Fields shall be bought in this land of which you are saying, 'It is a desolation, without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans'. Fields shall be bought for money, and deeds shall be signed and sealed and witnessed, in the land of Benjamin, in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negeb; for I will restore their fortunes, declares the Lord.
Jer 336-9
Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal
to them abundance of prosperity and security. I will restore the fortunes of Judah
and the fortunes of Israel, and rebuild them as they were at first. I will cleanse
them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of
their sin and rebellion against me. And this city shall be to me a name of joy, a
praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the
good that I do for them. They shall fear and tremble because of all the good and
all the prosperity I provide for it.
Jer 3312-16
Thus says the Lord of hosts: In this place that is waste, without man or beast, and in all of its cities, there shall again be habitations of shepherds resting their flocks. In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negeb, in the land of Benjamin, the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, flocks shall
again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the Lord. "Behold,
the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to
the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will
cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and
righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will
dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: 'The Lord is our
righteousness.'
Jer 4627,28
But fear not, O Jacob my servant, nor be dismayed, O Israel, for behold, I will save you from far away,
and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease,
and none shall make him afraid. Fear not, O Jacob my servant, declares the Lord, for I am with you. I will make a
full end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but of you I will not make
a full end. I will discipline you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you
unpunished."
Ezek 1116-21
Thus says the Lord God: "Though I removed them far off among the nations, and though I scattered them among the countries, yet I have been a sanctuary to them for a while in the countries where they have gone." Therefore say, "Thus says the Lord God: I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel. And when they come there, they will remove from it all its detestable things and all its abominations. And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abominations, I will bring their deeds upon their own heads, declares the Lord God."
Ezek 2127
A ruin! A ruin! I will make it a ruin! It will not be restored until he comes to whom it rightfully belongs; to him I will give it. (NIV)
Ezek 2824-26
"No longer will the people of Israel have malicious neighbours who are painful briers and sharp thorns. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord." This is what the Sovereign Lord says: "When I gather the people of Israel from the nations where they have been scattered, I will show myself holy among them in the sight of the nations. Then they will live in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob. They will live there in safety and will build houses and plant vineyards; they will live in safety when I inflict punishment on all their neighbors who maligned them. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God."
Ezek 3411-16
For thus says the Lord God: "Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country. I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land. There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord God. I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them in justice."
Ezek 3422-30
I will rescue my flock; they shall no longer be a prey. ... And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd. And I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. I am the Lord; I have spoken. I will make with them a covenant of peace and banish wild beasts from the land, so that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods. And I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing, and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing. And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them. They shall no more be a prey to the nations, nor shall the beasts of the land devour them. They shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid. And I will provide for them renowned plantations so that they shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, and no longer suffer the reproach of the nations. And they shall know that I am the Lord their God with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, declares the Lord God.
Ezek 367-12
Therefore thus says the Lord God: I swear that the nations that are all around you
shall themselves suffer reproach. "But you, O mountains of Israel, shall shoot
forth your branches and yield your fruit to my people Israel, for they will soon
come home. For behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be
tilled and sown. And I will multiply people on you, the whole house of Israel, all
of it. The cities shall be inhabited and the waste places rebuilt. And I will
multiply on you man and beast, and they shall multiply and be fruitful. And I will
cause you to be inhabited as in your former times, and will do more good to you
than ever before. Then you will know that I am the Lord. I will let people walk on
you, even my people Israel. And they shall possess you, and you shall be their
inheritance, and you shall no longer bereave them of children. Thus says the Lord
God: Because they say to you, 'You devour people, and you bereave your nation
of children,' therefore you shall no longer devour people and no longer bereave
your nation of children, declares the Lord God. And I will not let you hear
anymore the reproach of the nations, and you shall no longer bear the disgrace
of the peoples and no longer cause your nation to stumble, declares the Lord
God."
Ezek 3622-28
"Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your
sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name,
which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. And I will
vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the
nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know
that I am the Lord, declares the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my
holiness before their eyes. I will take you from the nations and gather you from
all the countries and bring you into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on
you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols
I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put
within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a
heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my
statutes and be careful to obey my rules. You shall dwell in the land that I gave
to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
Ezek 3633-38
"Thus says the Lord God: On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities,
I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt. And
the land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it
was in the sight of all who passed by. And they will say, 'This land that was
desolate has become like the garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and
ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.' Then the nations that are left all
around you shall know that I am the Lord; I have rebuilt the ruined places and
replanted that which was desolate. I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.
"Thus says the Lord God: This also I will let the house of Israel ask me to do for
them: to increase their people like a flock. Like the flock for sacrifices, like the
flock at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled
with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the Lord."
Ezek 371-14
The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the
Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. And he led
me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the
valley, and behold, they were very dry. And he said to me, "Son of man, can
these bones live?" And I answered, "O Lord God, you know." Then he said to me,
"Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the
Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter
you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to
come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall
live, and you shall know that I am the Lord." So I prophesied as I was
commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and
the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked, and behold, there were
sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But
there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath;
prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from
the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live." So I
prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived
and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army. Then he said to me, "Son of
man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, 'Our bones are
dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.' Therefore prophesy, and
say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and raise
you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel.
And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you
from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall
live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the
Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord."
Ezek 3721-28
Thus says the Lord God: "Behold, I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all around, and bring them to their own land. And I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. And one king shall be king over them all, and they shall be no longer two nations, and no longer divided into two kingdoms. They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols and their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions. But I will save them from all the backslidings in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God. My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes. They shall dwell in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children's children shall dwell there forever, and David my servant shall be their prince forever. I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore. My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when my sanctuary is in their midst forevermore."
Ezek 388
After many days you will be mustered. In the latter years you (Gog) will go against the land that is restored from war, the land whose people were gathered from many peoples upon the mountains of Israel, which had been a continual waste. Its people were brought out from the peoples and now dwell securely, all of them. (During the Millenium)
Ezek 3925-29
Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will now bring Jacob back from captivity and will have compassion on all the people of Israel, and I will be zealous for my holy name. They will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed toward me when they lived in safety in their land with no one to make them afraid. When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will show myself holy through them in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God, for though I sent them into exile among the nations, I will gather them to their own land, not leaving any behind. I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord.
Hos 110-21
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. And in the place where it was said to them, "You are not my people," it shall be said to them, Children of the living God." And the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and they shall appoint for themselves one head. And they shall go up from the land, for great shall be the day of Jezreel. Say to your brothers, "You are my people," and to your sisters, "You have received mercy."
Hos 214-20, 23
Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her. And there I will give her her vineyards and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. And there she shall answer as in the days of her youth, as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt. And in that day, declares the Lord, you will call me 'My Husband,' and no longer will you call me 'My Baal'. For I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they shall be remembered by name no more. And I will make for them a covenant on that day with the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the creeping things of the ground. And I will abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land, and I will make you lie down in safety. And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the Lord. ...
And I will sow her for myself in the land. And I will have mercy on No Mercy, and I will say to Not My People, 'You are my people'; and he shall say, 'You are my God.'
Joel 32, 16,17, 20,21
I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. And I will enter into judgment with them there, on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up my land. ...
The Lord roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth quake. But the Lord is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the people of Israel. So you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain. And Jerusalem shall be holy, and strangers shall never again pass through it. ...
But Judah shall be inhabited forever, and Jerusalem to all generations. I will avenge their blood, blood I have not avenged, for the Lord dwells in Zion.
Amos 911-15
"In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen ...
Behold, the days are coming," declares the Lord, ...
"I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them," says the Lord your God.
Obadiah 115-21
For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you ...
In Mount Zion there shall be those who escape, and it shall be holy, and the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau stubble; they shall burn them and consume them, and there shall be no survivor for the house of Esau, for the Lord has spoken. ...
The exiles of this host of the people of Israel shall possess the land ...
and the kingdom shall be the Lord's.
Mic 41,2, 6,7, 11,12
It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it, and many nations shall come, and say: "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. ...
In that day, declares the Lord, I will assemble the lame and gather those who have been driven away and those whom I have afflicted; and the lame I will make the remnant, and those who were cast off, a strong nation; and the Lord will reign over them in Mount Zion from this time forth and forevermore. ...
Now many nations are assembled against you, saying, "Let her be defiled, and let our eyes gaze upon Zion." But they do not know the thoughts of the Lord; they do not understand his plan, that he has gathered them as sheaves to the threshing floor.
Mic 718-20
Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. You will show faithfulness to Jacob and steadfast love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.
Zeph 39-20
"I will purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of the Lord ... On that day you will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me, because I will remove from this city those who rejoice in their pride. Never again will you be haughty on my holy hill. But I will leave within you the meek and humble, who trust in the name of the Lord. The remnant of Israel will do no wrong; they will speak no lies, nor will deceit be found in their mouths. They will eat and lie down and no one will make them afraid. Sing, O Daughter of Zion; shout aloud, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. ... The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. ... I will rescue the lame and gather those who have been scattered. I will give them praise and honour in every land where they were put to shame. At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honour and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes," says the Lord.
Zech 114-17
Then the angel who was speaking to me said, "Proclaim this word: This is what the Lord Almighty says: 'I am very jealous for Jerusalem and Zion, but I am very angry with the nations that feel secure. I was only a little angry, but they added to the calamity.' Therefore, this is what the Lord says: 'I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there my house will be rebuilt. And the measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem'," declares the Lord Almighty. "Proclaim further: This is what the Lord Almighty says: 'My towns will again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem'."
Zech 24-13
'Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of men and livestock in it. And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' declares the Lord, 'and I will be its glory within.' "Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north," declares the Lord, "for I have scattered you to the four winds of heaven," declares the Lord. "Come, O Zion! Escape, you who live in the Daughter of Babylon!" For this is what the Lord Almighty says:"After he has honoured me and has sent me against the nations that have plundered you -- for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye -- I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me. "Shout and be glad, O Daughter of Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you," declares the Lord. "Many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. The Lord will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem. Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling."
Zech 31-10
Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, "The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?" Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, "Take off his filthy clothes." Then he said to Joshua, "See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put rich garments on you." Then I said, "Put a clean turban on his head." So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the Lord stood by. The angel of the Lord gave this charge to Joshua: "This is what the Lord Almighty says: 'If you will walk in my ways and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here." 'Listen, O high priest Joshua and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch. See, the stone I have set in front of Joshua! There are seven eyes on that one stone, and I will engrave an inscription on it,' says the Lord Almighty, 'and I will remove the sin of this land in a single day. " 'In that day each of you will invite his neighbour to sit under his vine and fig tree,' declares the Lord Almighty."
Zech 81-8
Again the word of the Lord Almighty came to me. This is what the Lord Almighty says:"I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her." This is what the Lord says:"I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain." This is what the Lord Almighty says: "Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with cane in hand because of his age. The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there." This is what the Lord Almighty says:"It may seem marvellous to the remnant of this people at that time, but will it seem marvellous to me?" declares the Lord Almighty. This is what the Lord Almighty says: "I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west. I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God."
Zech 820-23
This is what the Lord Almighty says: "Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come, and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, 'Let us go at once to entreat the Lord and seek the Lord Almighty. I myself am going. ' And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the Lord Almighty and to entreat him." This is what the Lord Almighty says: "In those days ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, 'Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.'"
Zech 121-5
This is the word of the Lord concerning Israel. The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the spirit of man within him, declares: "I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness," declares the Lord. "I will keep a watchful eye over the house of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. Then the leaders of Judah will say in their hearts, 'The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the Lord Almighty is their God.'
Zech 1210 131,2
"And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. ...
On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity. On that day, I will banish the names of the idols from the land, and they will be remembered no more," declares the Lord Almighty. "I will remove both the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land."
Zech 142-9, 11, 21b
I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights in the day of battle. On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him. On that day there will be no light, no cold or frost. It will be a unique day, without daytime or nighttime -- a day known to the Lord. When evening comes, there will be light. On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea and half to the western sea, in summer and in winter. The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name. ...
Zech 1411, 21b
It will be inhabited; never again will it be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure. ...
And on that day there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord Almighty.
Mal 312
"Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the Lord Almighty.
Details of God's oft repeated 'Land Gift'
[Contents]
Almighty God's unconditional eternal covenant with Abraham and his descendants included the gift to them of a small, but special slither of land, of real-estate in the ME. Many today, even in the Church object to this. But God's repeated covenant remains -- and it will be fulfilled; even if evil men succeed in dividing it.

Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you."

Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the people of Israel whom the Egyptians hold as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant. Say therefore to the people of Israel, I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment. I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory."
Ezek 3411-29
For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign Lord. ... the people will be secure in their land. ... I will provide for them a land renowned for its crops.
